Outdoor Learning Pavilion

This Outdoor Classroom for a public elementary school is designed and built with two common materials, simple details, repeated and replaceable parts. It is intended to weather and last a lifetime, and be easily and cheaply repaired whenever needed.

During the school day, the pavilion serves as a place for students to gather before school starts and while waiting to be picked up, for outdoor class instruction, for portfolio picnics with parents, and as a way-point in p.e. class.

The school grounds are also a city park, and the pavilion is used for birthday parties, scout meetings, and probably many other things outside of school hours.

As the sun moves throught the day and year, the shade created by the structure and grove of trees is intended to follow the activity around the pavilion.
